Welcome Message

Prof. J. E. Onu (Dean, CVM)

The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) welcomes you to the University on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor and his team, and all the staff of the Veterinary College. The College which started in 2006 has, to date, graduated four sets of Veterinary Surgeons. Ours is a six-year course (by UME) leading to the award of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. The courses are divided into a year of Pre-Veterinary Studies within Colleges of Science and other years of paraclinical and clinical studies at the Veterinary College.

A College handbook, started in 2012 and revised and updated adequately is available to inform you on all aspects of academic life at the Veterinary College at MOUAU. It will also enable you to make a success of your stay within the University and prepare you for excellence in the profession within and outside Nigeria. It is realized that lack of information and guidance may limit knowledge and the potential of the student to maximize success. Thus, it is important that the handbook should be acquired and consulted early in your preliminary year. It would be particularly fulfilling if you, reading through the document /curricula, discover for yourself what the lecturers/ staff advisers would tell you later that the tight schedule contained therein, and adhered to by the College, has very limited time for any form of unfulfilling campus activity such as cultism and that success will come only with sustained maintenance of the highest standard of academic activities.

Objective and Philosophy of the College:
  • To provide adequate training that will enable DVM graduands facilitate production of wholesome meat, milk and poultry products with the aim of promoting public health.
  • To equip the students/trainees with knowledge and skill for teaching, research and public services.
